Tusah vs Mooto Doboks Compared: Which Taekwondo Uniform Is Best for Beginners?

Disclaimer: This is an independent review. We have not been paid by either manufacturer and have no commercial relationship with either brand. These are our observations after using both with students at Artos Taekwondo Portsmouth.
For several years we have supplied Tusah entry-level doboks to our students. They have been well-made, durable and competitively priced – an excellent choice for beginners and regular club training.
Recently our usual supplier was out of stock, so we tried Mooto entry-level doboks instead. That gave us the perfect chance to compare the two side by side.
Quick Comparison: Tusah vs Mooto
Feature | Tusah | Mooto |
Fabric | Heavier, robust, warmer | Lighter, smoother, softer |
Best for | Winter training | Summer & competitions |
Feel on skin | Can feel slightly rougher | Smoother finish, more comfortable |
Fit (same size) | True to size | Larger - +4-5cm (1.5-2") longer body & trousers, roomier waist |
Durability | Proven over years | High so far, long-term test ongoing |
Price | Comparable | Comparable |
Material and Comfort
The first difference is the fabric.
Tusah feels noticeably heavier. That makes it ideal in colder months and gives a more substantial feel. That extra weight can feel warm in summer or at competitions when sports halls get very hot. Many clubs, including ours, train in club T-shirts during warmer months, which helps.
Mooto fabric has a smoother, softer feel. Some students have told us Tusah can feel a little rougher against the skin. Mooto addresses that with a softer finish that many students prefer.
Quality and Construction
For workmanship, there is very little between them. Both have neat stitching and a quality finish that should withstand regular training. We expect good durability from both.
Sizing – Important Difference
Comparing like-for-like sizes (e.g. 140 vs 140 or 170 vs 170), Mooto is slightly larger than Tusah.
The main differences:
Longer jacket body and sleeves
Trousers approx. 4-5cm (1.5-2 inches) longer
Slightly larger waist measurement
For our club this has been an advantage. We have occasionally struggled to find entry-level uniforms that comfortably fit adults with a larger waist. The roomier cut of Mooto helps without needing to jump up a full size.
If you are between sizes, we recommend trying both if possible.
Price
Price is very similar. Mooto entry-level doboks are comparably priced to Tusah, so cost is unlikely to be the deciding factor. It comes down to preference for fit, weight and feel.
Final Thoughts: Which Should You Choose?
Both Tusah and Mooto make excellent entry-level doboks and we would recommend either.
Choose Tusah if you prefer a heavier-weight, robust uniform that feels warm – great for winter and regular club training. It has served us well for years.
Choose Mooto if you prefer a lighter, smoother uniform for warmer conditions or competitions, or if you need a little more room in the fit, especially around the waist.
There is no clear winner – both are quality uniforms at sensible prices.

Ongoing Review: We have only recently introduced Mooto, so this is based on initial use vs long-term Tusah experience. We will update this post after several months of training to cover durability, colour retention, shrinkage and washing.
